Not The French Connection: 300 people get sick from eating bread

Talk about letting down the team - two Asian Aussies who ran a French bakery get busted after making contaminated bread.

The owners of a Sydney bakery have been fined $42,000 for what the NSW government says is the worst food-poisoning outbreak in the state.

In March 2007, more than 300 people fell ill, and 136 of them were admitted to hospital, after eating products from the Homebush French Golden Hot Bakery, owned by Long and Linda Fou.

"In this case a total of 319 people were ill, which placed an extra demand on our health system, and also resulted in lost time at work," Primary Industries Minister Ian Macdonald said in a statement.
